In the 1950s and 1960s, the lack of public awareness in health and hygiene was a major obstacle faced by the government to improve the living environment of the community and fight against the spread of disease. As a result, the then Urban Council organized a series of educational campaigns to promote immunization against infectious disease such as diphtheria and cholera.
