Organized and coordinated by the Urban Council,
the "Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign" was launched
in 1972 with the aim to generate public concern
of environmental cleanliness as the basis of civic
pride.
At the beginning of the Campaign, Lap Sap Chung,
a representative cartoon litterbug, was used for
promotion. It quickly became a well-known figure
within the community. The Campaign has been in
place for more than a few decades with different
focuses and slogans such as clean up the building
and clean up the markets and beaches. Nowadays,
the Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign is still going
strong.
