Establishment

In 1972, there were 3 Archivist Grade staff and 9 Clerical and Other Grades staff. In 2022, there are 27 Archivist Grade staff, 21 Executive Officer Grade staff, 6 Curator Grade staff, 1 Analyst / Programmer Grade staff and 77 Clerical and Other Grades staff.

Storage Capacity

In 1972, the storage capacity for records was 1 600 Linear Metres. In 2022, the storage capacity for records, including archival holdings and bureaux/departments’ inactive records, is 133 600 Linear Metres.

Floor Area

In 1972, the estimated floor area was 550 Square Metres. In 2022, the floor area including the floor areas in Kwun Tong and Tuen Mun is 20 700 Square Metres.

Archival Holdings

In 1972, there were 17 000 records under 56 records series, from 8 transferring agencies. In 2022, there are over 1.75 million records under over 2 900 records series, from over 180 transferring agencies. The numbers of archival holdings, records series and transferring agencies were increased over 100 times, over 50 times and over 20 times respectively.

Microfilming and Digitisation

Until 2022, over 73 million microfilm images have been produced for other government departments and over 3.2 million digitised images have been produced for archival holdings.

Records Management Trainees

Statistics of accumulated number of records management trainees are summed up for every 5 years since 1997. In the period from 1997 to 2001, there were 9 900 records management trainees, and in the period from 2017 to 2021, there were 29 700 records management trainees. The number of trainees has increased by more than 200%.

Visitors and Enquiries

Statistics of accumulated number of visitors are summed up for every 5 years since 1997. From 1997 to 2001, there were 19 200 visitors and from 2017 to 2021, there were 25 400 visitors. The number of visitors has increased by 32%.

Statistics of accumulated number of enquiries are summed up for every 5 years since 1997. From 1997 to 2001, there were 16 100 enquires and from 2017 to 2021, there were 58 700 enquiries. The number of enquires has increased by 265%.
